Egidius Kwartet photo: Maurice Boyer |
Instrumentation: countertenor, tenor, baritone, bass & TV with dvdplayer Text: Ilja Leonard Pfeiffer (in Dutch) Duration: ± 4 minutes First performance: 21 april 2006 in Theater Lantaren/Venster by Egidius Kwartet and Nederlands Blazers Ensemble Made for: 'The 7 Virtues' by Nederlands Blazers Ensemble & Egidius Kwartet Commissioned by: Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst Review: "The four singers of the Egidius Kwartet are in the midst of singing on stage of the concerthall in Tilburg, when four members of the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble creep up behind them with black silk gloves on their hands, and slowly start to smother them. It was one of the most powerful images in an impressive concert that carried a campagne against the ongoing commercialisation of the cultural live in the Netherlands. This image concluded the contribution of Tilburg composer Mayke Nas to The Seven Virtues, meant as counterpart to Die sieben Todsünden by Brecht and Weill, that has a woman commit The Seven Deadly Sins in an attempt to raise money for her family."
